High potential and gifted education
Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport. At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

What is high potential and gifted education?
High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.
Supporting every student’s learning journey in the classrooms of Narromine Public School
At our school, we tailor learning experiences to meet students’ individual needs through differentiated tasks that adjust in pace, complexity, and encourage higher-order thinking. We use ongoing formative assessments to monitor progress and adapt teaching strategies, ensuring all students are challenged and supported.
Our advanced learning pathways offer opportunities for acceleration and deeper exploration, with explicit teaching of critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Students engage in inquiry-based and cross-curricular projects that promote creativity, choice, and authentic learning.
In Physical Development, Health and Physical Education, we provide targeted and differentiated activities that build coordination, agility, and control, alongside chances to lead in team strategies and demonstrations. Flexible grouping encourages collaboration, ideation, and presentation skills.
We foster a safe and supportive environment where students are confident to take risks, persevere, and reflect on their learning. Through strengths-based feedback, goal setting, and peer collaboration, we promote leadership and self-assessment, helping every child to thrive.

From debating and STEM and interest groups to academic competitions and critical thinking workshops, students have many ways to explore their interests and develop new skills.
We celebrate creativity through school musicals, dance ensembles, visual arts and drama showcases, and creative writing groups. For those passionate about sport, our sport squads, house competitions, and performance-based movement groups provide opportunities to stay active, develop teamwork, and achieve personal goals.
We also emphasise leadership and community, with peer mentoring, Student Representative Council (SRC) roles, and wellbeing programs that support every child’s sense of belonging and resilience. Participation in whole-school inclusion and wellbeing initiatives ensures a safe and supportive environment where every student can thrive.
